Reception sets the tone for the whole stay. Guests read a lobby in seconds: a tired, flat ceiling of cool-white downlights says budget, while layered warm light, a feature pendant and a lit reception desk says the property is cared for.

What goes wrong is usually mismatched colour temperatures after years of piecemeal replacement, glare over the desk, and decorative fittings that no longer have a globe available. We audit what is there, match or upgrade the globes, and specify dimmable tri-colour downlights and track so the space can shift from daytime check-in to evening bar mode.

We recommend IP44-rated tri-colour downlights over showers and baths, a dedicated vanity or mirror light set to 3000K–4000K, and a sensor downlight or night light for the 2am trip so guests are not hit with full brightness. For apartment refits we can supply exhaust fans and heater-light units at the same time so the electrician makes one visit.

Emergency and exit lighting is inspected on a routine cycle under AS 2293, and smoke alarms in accommodation buildings fall under AS 3786 and Queensland fire safety rules. Failures are typically found at the six-monthly discharge test, when a batch of batteries installed at the same time all reach end of life together.
